Marwa’s Story

It had been three months since I had my  strabismus surgery. I was very excited for this new chapter of my life, finally feeling like everyone else. However, during a school event that I was taking part in, I experienced my first tonic-clonic seizure. I was 17 years old, I was diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy.

Living with epilepsy has not been significantly different from my life before the diagnosis, at least outwardly. However, I am always on edge, anticipating the possibility of another seizure at any moment. The constant fear of losing consciousness has been challenging, and the aftermath is just as difficult, feeling lethargic yet having to reassure those who witnessed my episode.

Fortunately, I was prescribed lamotrigine, which has helped control my seizures. Epilepsy is a multifaceted condition that can be difficult to describe, even for those living with it. Raising awareness is essential because it encourages empathy, understanding, and accommodations for epileptics like me.
